There are two whale-watching seasons in Costa Rica. Migrating humpback whales from both ends of the world come to the Costa Rican shores in search of warm, protected waters to mate or have their offspring. They come between December through April from Alaska, and from August to end of November from Antarctica.
Apart from the humpback whales, which are the biggest group seen in this part of the world, Costa Rica receives other kinds, such as: Sperm whales, Orca whales, Pilot whales (actually belonging to the dolphin family) and dolphins as well.
Costa Rica is probably one of the best whale-watching locations in the world. A life-changing encounter with these magnificent sea giants is another good reason to visit this amazing country.
